Building a new school in California can be a long process. Yet with considerable determination on the part of the Belmont-Redwood Shores school district and community, construction of the new Shores school began in 2008, with a groundbreaking ceremony on August 15, 2009. As a result, the new Shores school will be fully open and operational for the 2010-2011 school year!

A name for the new school is coming soon..
On December 10, the school board will vote to give a name to the new school! The Name the New School Committee considered 62 names that were submitted by students and community members. The Committee of 8 people will be recommending that the new school name be Redwood Shores Elementary School. Before/Afterschool Childcare is moving forward
At the November 5 School Board meeting, the Superintendent reported that multiple proposals were received by childcare providers who are interested in providing services at the new school. The next step is to finalize evaluation critera and examine the proposals.
During that same meeting, the School Board voted to approve a plan to add two classrooms to the existing plan for the New Shores School, for the purpose of providing facilities for after school day care. Click here to read the original motion that was submitted for action.
